Telephone Town Hall for Seniors

The Chester County Commissioners and the Chester County Department of Aging Services are hosting a telephone community briefing on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.

The briefing will provide information on all available resources for Chester County residents age 60 and older during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Clean Slate & Expungement Virtual Workshop

A free Clean Slate and Expungement virtual workshop will be held by Coatesville Center for Community Health on Wednesday, May 13, at 3 pm. 

The Clean Slate and Expungement Workshops are designed to help those individuals with criminal histories who may have been denied employment or other services because of their criminal record.  An attorney from Legal Aid of Southeastern PA will conduct the workshop where participants will learn about the clean slate and expungement process, if they might be eligible, and learn how to proceed.  The attorney will meet individually with each participant to review their criminal record.

Diaper Drive – Free Diapers

Chester County Women’s Services will be giving out FREE diapers and wipes to those in need in our community. Stop by our Coatesville office (1028 E Lincoln Hwy, Coatesville, Pa 19320) on WEDNESDAY, MAY 13th from 3:00-6:00PM to pick up a free bag of diapers.

*You MUST call 610.383.0930 to reserve your diapers before Monday, May 11*

Limited availability. MUST call to reserve diaper size before Monday, May 11, 2020 at 12pm (noon). Diapers will be given on a first-call, first-serve basis.

Social distancing efforts will be in place. In an effort to reduce touchpoints, please pull up and open your trunk. We will put the diapers in your trunk. If you are walking, you must wear a mask when picking up your diapers.

The Help Book Online – in English and Spanish

The Phoenixville Community Health Foundation and Open Hearth, Inc. are offering the sixth edition of The Help Book online in English and Spanish. The purpose of this guide is help adults and children in the region better access health and human services.

More than 300 organizations and programs are profiled  here. You can find information about their services, contact information, and more. Whether you’re looking for affordable housing, emergency and supplemental food, employment services, health care, or substance abuse treatment, The Help Book has resources you can use.

Financial Aid Webinars and Virtual Application Sessions

PHEAA will offer Financial Aid Webinars in May on the following dates from 6-7 pm: May 7, 14 and 21 as well as offering one on one virtual application assistance.

Representatives from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Agency (PHEAA) will be providing an overview of how to apply for all types of financial aid, including completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is required to determine eligibility for most student aid programs such as the Pennsylvania State Grant, Federal Pell Grant, institutional offers, and federal student and parent loans. This will also be a great opportunity to have PHEAA representatives answer questions you may have.

Open Hearth’s Rental Assistance Program

Open Hearth’s Goal Achievement Program (GAP) is their homelessness prevention program that provides short-term, decreasing level rent payment assistance to those who are at risk of becoming homeless due to an unforeseen, short-term financial crisis. 

Thanks to the Phoenixville Community Health Foundation, they have an additional pool of funds to help those impacted by COVID-19 to keep them stably housed during this health and economic crisis.

Eligibility: 

  • Renter residing in Northern Chester County or Western Montgomery County
  • Must have an active lease agreement
  • Must have a source of income or guarantee of imminent income (this could be a layoff letter or an unemployment compensation letter) – proof of income for entire household from past 30 days required

Online Credit Repair Workshop

Open Hearth, Inc. is hosting its next financial workshop, Good Credit, How To Get It!, on Wednesday April 22nd at 6:00 PM. This workshop continues their Spring 2020 series of financial workshops that provide financial literacy to those who attend. Join their FREE , VIRTUAL workshop to learn how the credit system works; how to establish good credit quickly; and how to fix issues that went wrong.  

You will also learn how to design your personal repayment and repair schedule.

Comics Unbound Virtual Book Discussion

We’re taking our Comics Unbound Book Discussion online!!

Do you enjoy reading comics and graphic novels? Want to meet with other like minded people? Join us for our first virtual meeting!

The Comics Unbound Book Discussion has been meeting monthly at the Chester County Library for 2 years to talk about specific comic books as well as television, movies, and other books that the members are reading. We are always looking for new members. We suggest members be ages 16 + for adult content.

In our first meeting virtually, we will be discussing “The Imitation Game: Alan Turing Decoded” by Jim Ottaviani, as well as what everyone has been reading while home! You do not need to have read “The Imitation Game” to join us. At our meeting, we will be discussing future meeting topics.

Single Mothers Online Conference

The 8th Annual Single Mothers’ Conference is a 2 day free event brought to you by the Chester County Community Collaborative and will be held online this year on Saturday, April 18 and Saturday, April 25. The schedule for Day 1 is above.

The conference gathers resources from vendors in the area, dedicated to various aspects of the lives of single mothers including health, family, childcare, legal aid, finance, resume building, work wardrobe, nutrition, and so much more. There will be a virtual exhibit hall in addition to the online workshops.
