Growing Readers Fall Programs

You’ve been wondering, and we now announce our upcoming (Virtual) Fall Children’s Programs!
Starting September 20th, children aged infant through 6 years can attend programs via Zoom on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. Registration is already open, just click here to view our events calendar. This series of programs will be 5 weeks, however, they will not meet October 11th.

Your child will have a “front row seat,” viewing stories and singing songs while interacting with library staff who present each program. Most programs are presented live from our story time studio, so your child will feel like they are right at the library! In our calendar, you’ll find programs for 2’s, 3’s, and ages 4-6 on Mondays; infants/toddlers and 3’s on Thursdays; and on Fridays, something for 3’s and ages 4-6. Once you register, a Zoom link will be sent via email to you on the day of the program. When you register, please include your child’s name and age, and a current email address. We look forward to sharing many great stories with you this fall!

National Novel Writing Month 101

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo.org) is just around the corner! Have you ever had a story idea you thought would make a great novel? Always wanted to write a memoir about something that happened in your life? Just like to write?

Join us to learn more about getting those words out this November. We’ll go over what NaNoWriMo is, what it isn’t, and how it can help your creativity. Whether you’ve never heard of NaNoWriMo before or have been a regular participant for the last 20 years, whether you want to handwrite or use all the latest software, this session is for you.

Chester County Library and the Henrietta Hankin Branch Library are hosting virtual preparation sessions and virtual writing sessions throughout the months of September, October, and November. Attend any and all events that work for you! See our full schedule and register here.

Need a new hobby to keep your spirits up while we’re all social distancing?  Been watching K-Dramas for years and want to meet new K-Drama lovers?  Love BTS but don’t know much about Korean television?  Break out the kimchi and join us to watch an episode of one the hottest Korean shows, then pop onto a Zoom call to chat about the show, the newest Korean music, and Korean culture – all from the comfort of our own homes.

On June 27, from 3:00pm – 5:00pm, we will be watching the pilot episode of “Doom at Your Service.” Tak Dong-Kyung has been living a fairly ordinary, stable life since the death of her parents until everything starts to come crashing down around her.  She finds out that her boyfriend is married with a child on the way, gets scolded by her boss, is spied on by a pervert, has her brother constantly pestering her for money, and then, worst of all, is diagnosed with brain cancer.  One night, in a bout of drunken misery, she wishes on a shooting star for all the world to end – and accidentally calls up Myul Mang, a messenger of destruction between gods and humans, who chooses to fulfill her wish.

Need a new hobby to keep your spirits up while we’re all social distancing?  Been watching K-Dramas for years and want to meet new K-Drama lovers?  Love BTS but don’t know much about Korean television?  Break out the kimchi and join us to watch an episode of one the hottest Korean shows, then pop onto a Zoom call to chat about the show, the newest Korean music, and Korean culture – all from the comfort of our own homes.

On Sunday, April 11, from 3:00pm – 5:00pm, we will be watching the pilot episode of “True Beauty.”  Based on the popular webtoon by the same name, “True Beauty” tells the story of high school student Lim Jugyeong who, after being bullied by her family and peers for being “ugly,” learns the transformative power of makeup through online video tutorials and turns herself into a classic Korean beauty just in time to transfer to a new school.  In this new school, she is considered a “goddess” and is instantly popular, but she never stops considering herself ugly, and her greatest fear is that everyone will discover her secret.  Enter the handsome and popular boy, Lee Suho, who has seen her around town without her makeup on and who just happens to attend her new school.

On March 28, from 3:00pm – 5:00pm, we will be watching the pilot episode of “Vincenzo.”  A black comedy crime drama, “Vincenzo” follows the character of Park Joo-Hyung – renamed Vincenzo Cassano after being adopted by the head of the Italian mafia at the age of eight – as he tries to escape warring mafia factions and make his fortune in South Korea after the death of his adoptive father.

On February 21, from 3:00pm – 5:00pm, we will be watching the pilot episode of “Hospital Playlist.”  From the writers of “Reply 1988,” this slice-of-life drama tells the story of a group of five doctors who have been friends for twenty years, ever since their days in medical school, and who now work together in the same hospital.  One of the highest rated Korean dramas in cable TV history, “Hospital Playlist” is set to return with its second season in May.

Need a new hobby to keep your spirits up while we’re all social distancing?  Been watching K-Dramas for years and want to meet new K-Drama lovers?  Love BTS but don’t know much about Korean television?  Break out the kimchi and join us to watch an episode of one the hottest Korean shows, then pop onto a Zoom call to chat about the show, the newest Korean music, and Korean culture – all from the comfort of our own homes.

On Sunday, January 17, from 3:00pm – 5:00pm, we will be watching the pilot episode of “Lovestruck in the City.”  Newly released on Netflix beginning on December 22nd and airing until January 29th, this romantic comedy tells the story of architect and hopeless romantic Park Jae Won, played by famous actor Ji Chang Wook, who meets and falls instantly in love with Yun Seon Ah, a spontaneous and free spirited woman.  However, unbeknownst to him, Yun Seon Ah is really the alter ego of an ordinary woman named Lee Eun Oh, who is just looking to temporarily reinvent herself.  Despite this, she also falls in love with him.  Romance and shenanigans ensue as this couple – among others – navigates their way through dating and love while living the fast-paced city life.  This drama is the first in a series of dramas titled “City Couple’s Way of Love.”

On December 12, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, we will be watching the pilot episode of “100 Days My Prince”.  Crown Prince Lee Yul passes a law making it mandatory that all Korean citizens of marriageable age must marry before they turn 28 – right before a failed assassination attempt on him leaves him with amnesia.  Hong Shim, a strong, intelligent woman, who works many jobs to support herself and her father, is the oldest unmarried woman in her village.  She and her father take in the prince unknowing of his social status, and the two marry to avoid being punished under the new marriage law.  What follows is their love story.

On November 21, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, we will be watching the pilot episode of “Reply 1988.”  A must-see for anyone delving into the world of K-Dramas, “Reply 1988” is set during the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, which brought the developing city into the world’s spotlight, and revolves around the lives of five friends from the same neighborhood in Seoul as they grow up, get into mischief, and experience the influx of pop culture from around the world.  For an excellent article on this show, see this post from The New Yorker.

Need a new hobby to keep your spirits up while we’re all social distancing?  Been watching K-Dramas for years and want to meet new K-Drama lovers?  Love BTS but don’t know much about Korean television?  Break out the kimchi and join us to watch an episode of one the hottest Korean shows, then pop onto a Zoom call to chat about the show, the newest Korean music, and Korean culture – all from the comfort of our own homes.

On October 24, from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, we will be watching the pilot episode of “Another Miss Oh.”  Two women, both named Oh Hae Young, keep running into each other’s lives.  Between sharing the same school as kids and sharing the same career as adults, not to mention their issues with men, their lives are an entangled mess.  When one man, who can see glimpses of the future, becomes involved in their lives, he will have to choose which Oh Hae Young he wants to be with.  And both Oh Hae Youngs will have to learn how to separate themselves in order to live their lives as their own people.
