Winter Family Read-Aloud @ Hankin Branch

Families are invited to participate in our Winter Read-Aloud program! According to the U.S. Dept. of Education, “the single most important activity for building the knowledge required for eventual success in reading is reading aloud to children.” During the month of February, read aloud to your child (birth through 6th grade) to earn a free book and raffle ticket for the grand prize. Register online at or stop by the Youth Services desk at the Henrietta Hankin Branch Library to pick up your reading log and get started.

We thank the Friends of the Henrietta Hankin Branch Library for supporting this program.

Vote by mail–no questions asked!

The 2020 Primary Election is just over a month away and you want to make sure your vote is counted! Did you know that you can now vote by mail in Pennsylvania? Due to recent voting reforms, registered voters can now apply to receive a  mail-in ballot without  providing  a  reason. Registered voters with a valid PA Driver’s License or PennDOT ID number can apply for their vote-by-mail ballot online. If you do not have one of these ID numbers, you can download a paper application from the same site and mail it to your County Board of Elections. Learn more about voting in PA in this handy online guide.

Learn how to increase happiness

Current events have many of us worried, stressed out, and with more time on our hands than usual. Why not try an online course aimed at increasing daily happiness? One of Yale University’s most popular courses is available for free through Coursera, an online learning platform. The Science of Well-Being is taught by Yale Psychology professor Laurie Santos. The topics covered include misconceptions about happiness, how we can overcome our biases, and stuff that really makes us happy. The course is taught through video lectures, optional readings, and activities to do each day to build happier habits.
